I am getting ready to do the paint and body on my 77. The Urethane bumper covers would need to be removed, stripped, prepped and repainted. My gut feeling is that it is more cost effective to replace the bumber covers. Many sources offer fiberglass replacement bumbers instead of urethane. Any thoughts on which is better to use? I suspect that the fiberglass looks better and is easier to prep and paint - but does poorer than urethane in mild collisions. Any inputs from experience would be appreciated. Thanks Steve

Re: Urethane vs fiberglass
Steve,
I have two 73's, one with the original urethane front bumper and one with fiberglass. The 'glass one looks much better. But if I got it judged I would lose a lot of points for it. If you are going to be judged, get the original. For a driver go with the original as they will handle parking lot dings much better. For a show&shine car or weekend driver go with the glass as it really does look much better.

Re: Urethane vs fiberglass
Tom, Thanks for the advice. My 77 is an occasional driver and not a car that will be judged. I'm leaning towards the fiberglass for the looks but I am a little concerned about durability. Maybe, as you pointed out, the urethane is a better choice for a car that may spend some time in parking lots, etc. Steve- Top
