I have a '72 Corvette with a manual oil pressure gauge that does not work. I bought a complete gauge cluster at a swap meet and I was told that it was out of a '72. It has an electric oil pressure gauge. What years would have had a manual guage and which would have an electric guage? Was this an option? Does anybody know what the deal is? Thanks.

Yes, somebody "told you wrong". Mechanical type oil pressure gauges were used for 1968 through 1973 C3s. Beginning in 1974, the gauge type changed to an electric unit with sender. Since the configuration of the gauges changed for 1977, that pretty much means that the gauge that you have is for a 74-76. The 1974 electric gauge is unique to that year. The 75-76 are the same.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: C3 oil pressure gauge
Joe, what you are saying makes all the sense in the world. But what confuses me is in Dr Rebuild's book the oil pressure gauge is 0-35-70 for a 68-71 in a green face. It is 0-35-70 for a 72-73 in a white face. In 74 it is 0-40-80 in a white face. The two gauges that I have one electric and one manual is 0-35-70 in a white face. So if it was a 74 gauge wouldn't it have 0-40-80? Thanks- Top

Yes, as a matter of fact if it were ANY Corvette electrical oil pressure gauge, it should be an 80 pound gauge. I have no idea where your electrical 70 pound gauge comes from.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
