C1 1960 Coolant level - How much is enough?

How do you know how much coolant to put in the radiator? I believe my cooling system is ok... new thermostat, new radiator cap, etc. But I never know how much coolant to put in, so I "fill it to the top". And as you would expect, it spews some on the ground after running and then being shut off. The owner's manual indicates how much to put in at initial fill-up, but how do you know when there's enough on an ongoing basis? The "more modern" cars with overflow tanks sure make it easier.

Since this car is an occasional driver vs. show, is there something else I should consider?

    Thanks, Rick

It'll puke out too much. A 50/50 antifreeze mix (EVEN IN SUNNY CALIFORNIA) should be used. When things stabilize, the coolant level will fill 1/2 to 2/3 rds of the expansion tank.
