    Some serious 80' electrical problems

While driving my 1980 corvette it cut off completely, i.e. no turn signal, lights, dome lights, or anything. When I finally get the car to a safe place I parked and popped the hood to find that the field wire from the battery to the altenator jumped off the connection and shorted or grounded to the side of the altenator casing. This obviously caused a serious over load in some wire or fuse somewhere. I literally have no power to my fuse panel, or any power to any accesories i.e. lights,(including brake lights) dome lights, starter solenoid, etc. Despite this fact the battery does have power and any direct connections from the battery have power aswell. I am wondering if anyone has any advice about maybe having a "main fuse" or main fusable link that may have fried. I have looked to what seems to be everywhere for such a fuse or link and cannot find one. Any advice anyone would have would be more than helpful. I thank you so much for all the help.

There is a fusable link. I think you will find it near the starter conections on the 80. It will probably be obviously burned.
