C1 1960 Shifter Trim Plate Fasteners

I just completed installing new carpet in the 60, and am ready to reinstall the "Shifter Trim Plate" (Not the Shift Indicator Plate). Perhaps not the correct name, but I don't have my Corvette info handy at the moment... This is the plate that installs on top of the carpet over the shifter and boot, with the shifter on one side and the ashtray on the other.

I've received the new fastener/nut assemblies that the w mounting screws will fasten to. The AIM depicts the fasteners, but not in great detail. It appears that they are assembled into the fiberglass from below. Is that correct?

In addition, what type of hole are they assembled through? My assumption is that they are assembled through a round/drilled hole.

Any help is always greatly appreciated.

I believe that's what I have. The nut is captured within a spring metal "housing" that has a "J" shape on each side. I assumed that it assembled through a hole from the underside of the fiberglass with the "J" hooks protruding through the top. Am I getting warm?

        Rick,

My 58' has small square holes in the transmission tunnel and the captive nuts pop in from below. I think I drilled them 1/4" and filed them after into squares. This was AFTER significant glass work on the tunnel to save it. The '58 tunnel is removable, I'm not sure when the change was made to solid floorboards. Dale?
