    More Gas Tank Woes

    c1-1960 Exasperated!!!

Ok, I have put my new quanta tank in place with the metal straps connected
to the front with thier pins in the proper place. Now after much NUDGING
I still seem unable to get the bolt end of the strap down into the
rear area between the tank and the fiberglass, the fit is to tight to put
anything in thier. Any tips on coaxing the strap into place would be
    greatly appreciated!!!!

I remeber Al Ceiler saying he had to use longer bolts initally to reach
the nut plates on the underside then replace with shorter bolts. While
this may seem to work, I don't think I can even get a bolt in there.

Yes it is the right year tank according to ZIP. Are there do's and dont's
about prying, nudging, malleting etc.. that I should know about.

    HELP!!!

OK, I see there have been 50 viewing's of this post, doesn't anyone
have some advice for me. I am going to very gently try a pry-bar
tonight when I get home from work. Did I mention I am a novice here!!!?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Scott - I also just installed a new "Quanta" tank in my '61. Some time back someone said that the joint between the top and the bottom sticks out farther on the new tank than on the old. I got in there with a bar and gently bent the edge more to provide clearance for the straps and bolts. I hope that I didn't warp it enough to cause a leak. Will find out when I put some fuel in it. Good luck, John.

          Scott,
I also had the problem and should have mentioned it in my earlier response. The new tank was a b---h to get seated in the compartment, and I had to push and pry and curse and hope I didn't do damage.
Especially, the protruding seams needed coercion.
          Keep at it!
