    55 Voltage Retulator

I'm pretty much a midyear guy, so working on a friends 55 is somewhat different. Just replaced the brushes in the generator so we now have juice, but the bottom coil on the voltage regulator is sparking, and I get no juice to the battery or charge indication ont the guage. So it appears to be regulator replacement time. My question is, is there anything special about this regulator? It appears to be just like a 56-62 or later.

    Thanks for the help.

Did you polorize the generator after installing it?

Don't you polarize the regulator when installing a new one? Not the generator?

The generator is the component that needs its "memory" re-established, but that's done at the regulator; brief shorting of the "Bat" to "Gen" terminal at the regulator will do it.
