'63 dashboard to heat duct connection

Is there a part that goes between the defrost duct and the dash board? While connecting the duct to the dash board, using the three studs and nuts, I noticed that there is about 1/2 inch gap. Also, the duct opening just doesn't look right being exposed. So, I thought that there should be a screen or something like the speaker grill.

I just finished pulling everything out from under the dash of my 63, and there was nothing on the top of my defroster duct. I made a note to ask the very question that you posted.

It does seem 'odd' that there isn't something there. I hope that you and I don't have the same problem and that someone didn't, or forgot to put the part back in.

The gap is correct. There is no screen on the defroster duct at the top.
