    67 Corvette with 427

    Good morning,

My problem is I think an incorrect Alternator mounting BRACKET.All I can find records this bracket as being 3882810. Mine has the number 3878624 and it could be a little short of the correct length! Can anyone who has one of these off the car please let me have a measurement of the length from any reference point ie bolt hole on the bracket along the plane where it bolts to the head above the exhaust manifold. The car has no Power Steering. As a point of curiosity can anyone tell me what is the application for the piece I have.

    Thank you in antisipation

    Colin-----

GM #3882810 is the correct alternator bracket for your non-power steering application. This piece is still available from GM for a current list price of $49.51 US.

At the moment, I don't know what the application is for the GM #3878624 bracket, but I may be able to identify it later.

      Colin,
I looked at my '67 427/390 no A/C alternator bracket. The number is 3882810.
      Dimensions you asked for:
Space between U-mount ears 2-1/8 inches (area where alternator attaches to bracket.)There is also a spacer on the bolt shaft to allow for descrepancies in the distance between the alternator mounting ears
Dimension between "vertical" mounting holes on the front of the head 3-3/8 inches
Dimension between vertical mount hole surface and the bolt hole above the manifold 3-3/4 inches
I can send pictures if you want.....

        3878624 or 3878264?

I think the first part number is for a '63 Corvair mudflap (w/H.D. susp.).

The other part, #3878264, is an alternator bracket for a 1966 or '67 Chevrolet passenger car with a 427.

          Question:

Where is the part # stamped?

          Regards,

The part number is in the "web" of the bracket. If yours is mounted on the engine you may be able to see it using a mirror. It should be below the alternator mount location at about 45 degrees on the "web" It is cast into the bracket.

              Good Morning all,

May I thank you all for your interest and detail of answers This is my first "try" at using this method of discussion and I must say I am overwelmed at the response! By way of result it appears the BRACKET I have is for a Chev Passenger Car and I was delighted to also be informed that the correct one is still available new fron GM. I have restored this car myself out here "Down Under" and it is in just these areas where your collective 'local knowledge' is so helpfull.

I shall now get on the fax to my dealer and order a new one.

              Thank you again

              Regards.
