    65 firewall insulation source

I just got a set of firewall insulation (the lower 2 pieces with black cardboard glued to it) from Corvette Central and the fit is terrible. Has anyone had good luck with these pieces from a particular supplier? It is very expensive for a couple pieces of press molded cardboard and insulation. I am going to send this stuff back and look for a closer reproduction.
    Thanks for any help,
    Rob

I sympathize! I have been trying to get firewall insulation for my 68. Both Dr rebuild and Ecklers have told me they had none in stock due to supplier problems. I hope someone has a good suggestion as my car is disassembled waiting to find a source!

        Rob:

I purchased the insulation for my '65 from Dr. Rebuild about 2 years ago. It was also a terrible fit--especially around the steering column, where I had to cut away some material to make it fit.

Although I obtained every blueprint and actually considered producing these parts - I have NEVER produced them. We only resold those produced by another company called Country Corvette.

I ordered both the upper and lower insulation for my 66 roadster from Vette World. I've been waiting for about a month for the upper piece. Do you mean to say that I can expect a poor fit? Fortunately, I don't need either piece for a while.

                    Dave,
The upper insulation that I got from Long Island fit pretty good and I am happy with the installation. It is the left side lower piece that goes around the fuse block and steering column that fits so poorly. Do you still have your original pieces? I would try to restore them if you do. I may look for some old original stuff.

                        Rob,

I have the old pieces but they were in bad shape --musty, etc. The company now making the lower insulation is the old Country Corvette located in Kansas. I understand that they are sole source suppliers and are in no hurry to produce the product. Vette World sats that they are slow to deliver but nobody ever complained about the quality. I'm assuming the Dr. Rebuild and Corvette Central also gets their insulation from them.
