i'm looking for a reference to determine if the master cylinder on my 68 is the original. any help would be appreciated. nothing in the black book or restoration books. thanks. jd

If manual brakes it should have part # that ends in 509. Sometimes there dated but very hard to read. The date looks like waterpump date. If you look on one of the line boses the julian date code is sometimes stamped in. It will only tell what day , not year.- Top

Check 1968-1969 Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide (TIM&JG, used to be called Judging Manual) available from Cincinatti membership office. There is lengthly write up in there on master cylinder. There also was a story in The Corvette Restorer Magazine some years ago. Check it out.
BTW: My experience, which is more in 1970-1972, is that the date code is 4 numbers. Three for the Julian day of the year and 1 for the last number of the year. They are very hard to read. Strangly, as I get older they get harder to read. Can't figure that one out.
