I am rebuilding a 1961 engine, code "CU" with special high lift cam #3736097. The car has been in my family since 1963 so I no it has never been apart. The camshaft needs to be replaced and would like to know of a good source for this cam or a trust worthy regrinder out there. Have any other members replaced this cam with a hyd. cam with good results. I have notice that corvette central and performace chevy which advertises in the driveline lists this cam. I am Located in the Detroit area any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: 1961 engine code "CU" special high lift cam
A lot of folks who don't like to fool with solid lifters find that the 327/350 hp cam (aka '151) is a good high performance street cam in both the 283 and 327. A reproduction of the original is readily available if you are so inclined.- Top

Re: 1961 engine code "CU" special high lift cam
You can buy the "Duntov cam" from Federal Mogul, but I would recommend the LT-1 cam from the same source. It will provide stronger torque across the range with similar idle quality. Of course you will need a new set of mechancial lifters for either cam and I would suggest the original type "edge orifice" lifters as opposed to the later "piddle valve" lifters, but I'm not sure from whom you can procure the early type.
