    66 Trico Wiper Blades

I have a 66 with "peaked edge" Anso wiper blades which according to Dobbins is correct for a car built April 28, 1966 or after. Earlier 66 cars I am told have flat edge dull finish blades. A friend with a benchmark 66 with similar serial number (approx.21,000)informs me that blade should be peaked with flat spot on top. I do not doubt him whatsoever. However, can anyone tell me if am I may be confusing this from the 67 blade which is peaked with no flat spot on top? That is what is on my car now. Thanks for helping me sort this out.

Seth - Please double check your reference, but to the best of my knowledge the peak shaped to ANCO holder (dull or brushed finish) was used for the entire '66 production year and also thru the '67 production year. It was the configuration of the TRICO holders that changed from the brushed flat top to the brushed peak shaped top during the '66 production year. Also, as far as I know this peak shaped top TRICO holder used in late '66 carried on thru the 1967 production year. Pete

My early '66 coupe (October 1965 build date; #2968) has bright chrome trico wiper blades like the 1965 model year. The wiper arms, however, have the dull finish.

My early October car also has the bright finish, flat top Trico blade holders, along with the dull finish arms. There is always lots of discussion around whether ANY early '66 cars could have come with the bright finish blade holders. Seems like most judges say no. Pete and I have done lots of wiper research, but I still am not settled (one way or the other) on this question of the possibility of some early '66 cars coming out with the bright finish parts.

John - Replaceable items like wiper holders and blades are complicated afetr 35 plus years; but the potential of using previous production year's item until the stock is depleted is always a real. Also, if you are the original owner or have the situation documented, you probably have a good leg to stand on so that's great. It could also be that originally the car came with ANCO wiper holders and somewhere down the wipers needed to be replaced and since the ANCO inserts weren't readily replaceable they were replaced with TRICOs and the the bright ones were what were available. Complicated situation, yes. Hope this helps, Pete
