Pulled the plugs today and found a few to be quite fouled. I have a 245 Hp dual quad setup but I am running the duntov cam. I was wondering what others who drive their cars often are running for spark plugs. Im running 45 but could I go as hot as a 46? Does anyone run a hotter plug in just those cylinders that tend to get fouled?

I run 45 or 46 equivalent plugs in my '57 270 (and in my factory way-over-carbureted '69 Z/28) with few problems; AC doesn't make the 46 any more, but the 45S or Champion J14YC work OK for me. Other equivalents include Autolite 76 (non-resistor) or 86 (resistor) and Denso W14P-U (45 equivalent) or W9P-U (46 equivalent). 46's were used in later 2x4 production, and there were several Service Bulletins notifying dealers to replace 43's and 44's with 46's on customer-complaint 2x4's with fouling problems.- Top

Re: 58 spark plugs
Kris,
Some on this board are not in aggreement with me on this, but I believe the older(pre 1975) AC delco spark plugs are of extremely high quality and are an excellent option for older Corvettes. They are available in a variety of heat ranges and configurarions i.e. extended tip, resistor etc. I use 45's in my 59 245 HP car and have had excellent results. The 46 heat range is popular with the fuel injected cars. Some like the S(extended tip) plugs as they feel the spark is closer to the piston. These plugs can be cleaned with an abrasive plug cleaner and remain useable.- Top
