    UA6 Alarm Horn Finishes

The beast is out of the car. It's totally gnarley looking - but it worked before it was removed. It needs a serious cosmetic facelift. I have photos online. The plan is to wire brush it with the baby dremel thing and then mask / paint it. I'm not going to separate the parts - just clean up the outside as best I can. If it ain't broke...

Based on what little paint residue there is I can see that the bracket is black and the top side of the horn is black. It's got these rivets holding it together. Are they natural or painted? They appear to be aluminum rivets. Also there's a little tab thing sticking out on one side. What's that for? It was just sort of hanging in the breeze in my car and nothing was attached to it. Should there have been?

Also, in the 2nd picture there's this thing just above the bracket which a sort of flower shape screw head to it - sort of like an adjustment something or other. What does it do? Does it screw off or ??? Should it be painted or natural? Also, I'm thinking John Deere Blitz black for the finish - anyone with info contradicting that for the finish? Or should it be more glossy or more matte? Thanks! ~Juliet

    Juliet,
It is all black, except the tab for the 12v supply. You can see the mask line on it in your photos. Horn was painted before the plastic trumpet was installed. I don't know what the tab is for - maybe something in production or assembly. The unusual shaped screw is to adjust the tone - if the horn works, don't touch the screw.
I can't tell you the exact shade of black - but given where the horn is mounted (literally where the sun don't shine) who is to determine the exact shade? Mr. Deer's product is as good as any - especially if you have some at hand.

WOw, that's great. No masking (other than the 12V tab). I like that! I'd never have realized that was a mask line until you pointed it out! Afterall, what's a little more or less rust on a nasty looking thing like this? As for working - yes, it worked and worked and worked and worked - even if the UA6 system was turned off. I have to still track down which of the SX plunger switches or wiring part was shorting out. Hopefully that wasn't something inside the horn causing it. Thanks Terry! ~Juliet
