    '66 BB A/C Battery cables

Who makes good repro battery cables with the correct marking/dates? I have a set that is dated 15 65 in white ink just below the clamp (must be December or Jan '65 since it's a March 2 build car). The positive clamp is getting a bit worn so I'm thinking of replacing. Also, I see that most parts companies list the correct cable clamps as "spring clamps" - mine are the 1/2" delco nut&bolt type. Is this just for A/C cars? Any advice?

Dan - I would expect battery cables with "spring ring" ends at the battery end whether the car had C60 or not. A number of places have them and for all we know they all might come from the same source. Electric Limited, Long Island Corvette Supply come to mind. BTW, I'm not aware that the cables were dated, but then again there's always something new that's been discovered. Pete

These are definately not the spring ring variety as they use the small nut and square-end bolt to tighten onto the battery post. The cables clamps are Delco, and have "this side down" on the bottom of the clamp. I'll need to look at the lettering more closely to make sure I am giving all the printed info, but I am positive RE the "15" and separate number "65" printed on the cable about 8" from the clamp. Certainly doesn't look like aftermarket stuff.

Dan - '66 & '67 small blocks and BIG BLOCKS w/ C60 used the same battery cables, part numbers 6286181 and 2979821, and these were the "spring ring" style and had the part numbers stamped on them in white near the battery connection. The positive cable was brown and the negative cable was black. From your description, I believe what you are describing are Delco or Chevrolet service cables manufactured in the later 70s thru to possibly current. Hope this helps. Pete

Peter, I just had to go to the garage and look again. You're right. Looking at the printing on the cables, they have to be service replacements. The positive (black) cable was printed: Delco 0 1E 65. The negative cable (black also) printed: Delco 0 30. The positive cable sure did look like a date code...

Thanks for the info. Time to order new cables

Dan - FYI, the numbers on the original cables were 5/16" in height; but I have seen some reproduction cable with 1/4" numbers. Folks seem to have the cable cover colors and lenghts correct but sometimes those small details seem to get overlooked. Pete
