    68 carb with no marking?

I've got a 68 327-350hp with what by all indications is the original carb, but I can't find the part number marking as described in the judging guide. The area is completely free of any markings.

The date code on the throttle plate is consistent with the car, and it looks like the right carb #7028219, but I can't find any other number stampings.

Did some carb's not get marked? Were some marked somewhere else on the body? Could this be a "Carter built" Rochester?
    Any help appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Robert Holmes

Some 1968 Rocehester carburetors are marked on the driver's side base plate.

            Robert------

Another possibility: at some point in its life the carburetor may have been repaired with the installation of a SERVICE float bowl assembly. This is sort of unusual since, most often, if a float bowl needed to be replaced, someone would just replace the entire carburetor. However, once-upon-a-time, GM did sell float bowl assemblies so some folks must have used them. If not, GM never would have sold them.

SERVICE float bowl assemblies have NO stamped-in numbers present on them. I have several of these in my collection [none for sale] and none of them have any stamped-in numbers or codes. SERVICE float bowl assemblies are like "wild cards"; they can "become" whatever carb number or date code you want.

joe is correct as the part # for the bowl assy is 7036318. early Q jets used a round aluminum disk embedded in the side of the main body that had the carb # on and these fell out a lot. i am not sure what year they changed to a stamped number on the main body,

                    Joe any way to tell?

                    Joe:

Are there any other markings on a SERVICE float bowl assembly rochester carb. I think I might have one that I want to have rebuilt as a 7028219. If a number is not on the drivers side is it able to be rebuilt as needed??

                    Thanks, John

                        John-----

There are no identifying markings on the SERVICE float bowl assemblies. If the correct float bowl assembly was used for the particular carburetor, then the carburetor can be rebuilt just as if it were the complete, correct carburetor for the application.
