1974 firewall mtd seatbelt overide relay part # ??

can anyone tell me if this is the correct firewall mounted seatbelt override switch/relay for a 74 vette? the part # is gm #1243384. its that goofy lookin relay with the rubber push button on it that plugs into that orange socket on the pass side of the firewall.

GM #1243384 is the correct part number for the 1974 seatbelt override relay application. It may also have been used on some 1975s. The part is as you described and it does mount on the firewall. It was discontinued in June, 1995. However, I'd suspect that there are plenty of these "around" in both used and NOS form. This same part was used on many other Chevrolets and, even, models in other GM car lines during the 74-75 period and I doubt that GM ever sold many of these in SERVICE. Most folks just disconnected the system making the relay superfluous.

thank you joe. as usual i appreciate the info you have dug up for me. the service you do is invaluable. but i do disagree on one point. these do not seem to be plentiful. iv'e been searching for one for about 3 years and have just recently run across one. 3 years of searching through boxes at "corvettes at carlise" have not even turned up 1. i recently found an nos one and wanted to be sure it was correct before buying it. thanks again for your time and effort.

Rather than a flea market, the place to look is your friendly Junkyard, on 1974 cars only (Any GM from Buick Apollo thru the lowly Vega) for the most part. The Feds eliminated the mandate for the system prior to the start of the '75 model year, and GM was only too happy to comply.

iv'e tried the yards, about 12 to 15 total with no luck. not to say theres not more salvage yards in my area of pa but the 74 model year didn't exactly set the world on fire and most of them have been crushed. i do keep searching whenever i find a new one though.

I would expect yards in the SW or maybe Colorado to be full of 1974 donor vehicles. How does a western vacation with a scrap yard agenda sound? In your and my part of the world the rust worm had killed almost all the 1974s of any model.
