    77 blinker problem

    Hello all,

When I went to get my Texas vehicle inspection, I was informed that my rear blinkers were working in reverse of my front blinkers (i.e. left instead of right). Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Also, my horn has been disconnected at the wiring harness because it was causing a drain on my battery. The wiring inside the steering column is not damaged in any way. I am missing a plastic washer in the steering column assembly but it is very far from the horn contact. Any ideas?

    Thanks so much,

Oposite? thats a new one. I would just switch the wires in the connector if that is the only problem. As far as the horn wire. That wire simply grounds to activate the horn. If there is a short there it would activate the horn, so I doubt that is what is causing the drain on the battery. You should put a volt meter on that wire going into the column and check for any voltage. If it has voltage, it is touching a hot one somewhere. Then check resistance. If it shows no resistance, it is shorted to ground. If it shows infinate resistance, that is correct, until you press the button when it should go to zero.

Which wires would be for the rear blinkers only?

The circuit for the brake lights and the seperated signals originate in the steering column. They come out through a connector at the base of the column. Someone has switch the wires somewhere from there to the rear. I would look at the rear first.

Found that the green and yellow wires on the bottom of the connector were switched. Swapped them back and now I have the correct blinker!

                Thanks,
                Russ
