    Fire Extinguishers

Taking the car out of hibernation, I notice my fire extinguisher is dead. Need to get a new one. I'd really like one that I could securely secure somewhere in the passenger compartment of my C1 without drilling holes. Some kind of a bracket that bolted to existing holes; some kind of a Velcro jobby that stuck to the carpet; etc.. I notice later model Corvettes have ones that bolt to the seat or seat tracks.

    1. What kind of fire extinguishers do people carry?

    2. How do you carry them? Do you leave them loose in the passenger compartment? Or, if you secure them, how?

I've made me a bracket which attaches the fire extinguisher to the driver seat. I did drill holes in the seat frame.

I bought an auto/marine extinguisher from a local Wal-Mart or Meijers. It came with a bracket which has velcro on the back. It isn't exactly locked into place, but the velcro keeps it from rolling around.

Halon is the best for use with our cars. Should you need to use it it won't damage your paint and create more problems. Halon fire extinguishers are still availvable. They are expensive but so is a new paint job. If you want one email me and I can help you out.

I use the halon as well. Buy the largest unit you can afford or can stand to have in the car. I use velcro to hold the thing in place. Hasn't moved yet.
