    57 wiper motor speed adjustment

At the western regional murphys law took effect. During tech inspection my wipers refused to go to slow speed, high speed only, or was slow speed only, no way to tell. The wipers had only one speed. Is there an adjustment inside the motor, or is the cable not performing the way it should. Where are you John, I need more help on the road to top flight.

Ed, the switch inside the wiper motor is actuated by the cable, which actually moves the plastic slide assy on top of the motor. You can disconnect the cable and activate the switch manually to see if the motor will run on both speeds. If not, the switch can be accessed by removing the cover plate. The switches them selves have a very fine adjustment and are a little fragile. There is a proceedure in the ST 12 for adjustment. The switch has some thin copper blades that can break. There is also a low speed resistor which can burn out.(no low speed) If either of these problems exist, you will probably have to send the motor out, simply because the parts are not readily available. It's possible one of the repair shops will sell you a switch. I hope it's the cable. Good luck.

        Thanks Ed,
The car is in the shop and I beleive we can fix the problem. I had the wiper motor completly rebuilt by a fellow in N.Y. state. When I installed it and gave it the smoke test, it only had one speed. I don't want to send it back because is took so long the have it returned. We will try to fix it here in Ca.

        Thank you again.

If you determine that you have high speed only, it is most likely that the low speed resistor is open. If low speed only, then the switch may be out of adjustment or broken.
