I know that early L-82 engines had 4-bolt mains but have heard that later year L-82s went to 2-bolt mains. Can anyone confirm that change over and, if so, when it occured?

You asked if anyone could CONFIRM this. I can't confirm it. However, I believe that some later L-82s were built with 2 bolt main blocks. If so, it did not occur until VERY late in C3 production. Certainly, not before 1979. In fact, vaguely, I recall that it was 1980, the last year of L-82 availability, that the 2 bolt configuration was utilized. But, it may have included some 1979s with the 14016379 block casting. For 1980, it may have included engines built with the 14010207 casting.In Appreciation of John HinckleyComment
