    '63 Seats

After I had removed both seats, I noticed that a couple of additional holes had been drilled in the front for both seats. When I removed the seats, I did not know that there was more than one hole, so I don't know which hole was being used. There is a metal support in the front, rivited to the pan, with two threaded holes in it. These holes are 13" apart. I have seen this support referenced in catalogs and I think in the AIM. The front holes in the seat runners are 14.75 " apart, therefore too wide to fit the support, hence the extra holes. The upholstery patteren of the seats is 63. The seat adjustment handle (for moving seat forward and back) looks like a 64 based on a picture in the Corvette Central catalog. So, I thought maybe they are 64 seats with 63 covers. But the replacement runners in the catalog say they fit 63-66. Also, the runners don't look the same as the drawing in the AIM. Could these be 62 seats ? Identification is not critical, but I'm curious. The real issue is to get some support for the front bolts. My first thought is to make a support similar to the existing one, but longer, and rivet it to the floorpan.

    Any comments, suggestions, cautions ?

    Seat Mount Reinforcements

I just went downstairs and measured both the distance between seat mount tracks as well as the distance between the weld nuts on the reinforcement on my 64. The seat mount reinforcement holes are 16" center to center. The seat tracks are also 16" center to center but can be moved in a little to get very close to the 14.5" you describe. I was under the impression that your 63 should be the same as my 64, but I cannot speak with authority on this as I have no original 63 to measure. I have no idea why your seat mounts would have the weld nuts only 13" apart. Is your car very a early car such as a pilot line car or maybe some type of factory racer which may have had different seats in it? I would try to get some input from somebody with a 63 to be sure that they aren't supposed to be 13" apart. If your seats are right and the bracket is wrong, (odd but quite possible) I personally might be tempted to just order new brackets, rivet them on, bolt in the seats, and call it a day. Hopefully a couple of 63 owners will help you out and let you know what their seat mount brackets are like.

While 63 and 64 seats look very similar there are a couple differences. The 63 seats are a one year only item. The feet of the 63 seats are adjustable for height, thats the only mid year this applies to. The bases might be a different dimension than the 64 because of the adjusting feet. The seat cushions look identical. The seat backs are different. The 63 has a pointed top on the seat back. The 64 has a flat top. I would suggest looking at the feet and see if there are adjusting bolts on them. If yes they're 63 if no they're 64.

There are no height adjustments on the rails, so the seat bottoms are probably '64. I left a message with a catalog tech line requesting the spacing between the welded nuts on their '64 reinforcement. If that matches up, I will replace that as Shane suggested.
