    Side exhaust

Does anyone know what color/type of paint to use on the fiberglass shields that go inside the metal heatshields on a 67 bigblock with side exhaust? They are black in color, but if you order a new set, it will come in grey fiberglass.

Also, was the entire inside and out painted, or, just the slots that show through the metal?

    Re: Side exhaust

    Mike,
I disassembled the side exhaust which came on my '66. They were old, but not original. The outside (visible) portion of the shields were completely painted black. (Gloss, Semi, or flat I couldn't tell but appeared to be semi.) I repainted them with high temp flat black, and they look good, actually hardly visable behind the covers. They get pretty hot so high temp paint seems best.
I haven't reassembled the shields to the covers, waiting to determine which bonding compound to use.

I was asking that question earlier this week, and got a response from an ncrs judge that to me he would use a product called JB Weld, an epoxy that is readily available!
