    64 crossmember

Have installed new rubber cushions on the crossmember and have installed. Should the cushions be flush with the frame? I have tighted the two end cushion bolts with an impact and tried to get the cushions flush, but am having a problem getting things flush? Could it be the new cushions? I am about 1/8th of an inch off. Any ideas on how to get the bolts tighter? The cushions fit fine and the tabs have been bent over? Thanks

    Re: 64 crossmember

I took my crossmember off of my 72 and reinstalled it this past week.

I just walked down to the garage and looked at it. The crossmember is approximately 1/4" to 5/16" off of the frame. This crossmember is on a 33000 mile car and the rubber boot is still new looking with very legible numbers. I can assume that it is original.

The cushions will not be flush with the frame... they fit over hat-shaped protrusions (trunated cones) on the frame and the bolts pull the inner part of the cushions snugly up onto the hats, not flush to the frame.

I installed new sombrero bushings into my rear crossmember on my 66 and noticed the same, i.e. a 1/4 -5/16' gap between the crossmember and the frame. I was also advised that this was normal.
