If someone could help me with a way of positively identifying 283/270HP carter carburetors. Most sets no longer have ID tags. Therefore, casting IDs, and overall design would probably be a means. Thanks in advance for your info.

Your TM&JG should have all the detail carb ID info. Don't know about '59, but for '57 270's, the air horns were 6-1203 or 6-1299 and the main bodies were 0-049 or 0-1049, with 1/2"-dia. weights on the air valve levers.- Top

Re: 59 dual quad carburetor identification
According to the "Corvette Black Book", Mike Antonick, your '59 would have the same as '58:
270 hp: 2613S in front of 2614S (Chevy 3741089 & 3741090)
245 hp: 2626S in front of 2627S (Chevy 3744002 & 3744004)
all have air horn 6-1299; main body 0-049 and/or 0-1049,
according to "Chevrolet by the numbers", Alan Colvin
You might want to get a copy of "Carter Carburetors", Dave Emanuel, ISBN 0-931472-11-3 for details.
The books are available from the NCRS online bookstore.
Hope this helps
