Will an "870" 63 327/250 hp engine (stamp pad indicates it's from a 63 Impala SS) be a reasonable rebuild candidate for my wrong engine vette ? My cars not numbers matching now and it has a 72 350 currently. I'm just trying to rebuild something that's more correct historically.

Yes, the Impala engine would be great. However, it would be best if it was an original Flint built engine and of proper date range. So, check the block stamp pad. If the engine production code begins with an "F", then you have an original Flint-built engine. If it begins with a "T", then it's Tonawanda-built. Tonawanda-built engines usually (but NOT always) also have a two-digit year year casting date on the bellhousing flange. That's the most important feature regading Tonawanda versus Flint-built engines. The block pad stamping can be removed by decking the block.
In any event, the "870" block casting will be far more correct than what you have now.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
