I have just managed to strip off layers of paint on my 66 grill. Now I need to put some back on.... The effort of restoration is like Entropy, it always increases. Anyway. How much of the grill is painted satin black(?) and how much is left shiny. Is the back of the blacked out portion also painted. I appreciate the help. I'm getting ready for a flight judging on Saturday so panic is starting to set in.

Re: 66 grill painting??
Jerry,
I'm not a '66 owner, but got a NOS '66 grille with other new parts when I bought my '65, and there wasn't ANY black satin on the grille. Silver satin, yes, but no black that I recall. It's a potmetal casting, 'egg crate' style, polished around the outer circumference and maybe 1/4 inch or so along the inside edge of the circumference. The rest, as I recall (I traded the grille for a repro '65), was painted in a satin silver, somewhat like the 'frost' coating on the 64 wheelcovers.

Re: 66 grill painting??
Jerry,
-----No primer!Just dull aluminum or satin silver, whichever you prefer to call it.Tape off the outside ring, and paint the rest. Then get busy with some laquer thinner and wipe the dull aluminum off of all the leading edges, both horizontal and vertical, with care. The grill attachment brackets are semi-gloss black, and they are soft aluminum riveted to the grille in the appropriate holes.Hope I havent forgotten anything but if I have someone else will chime in.Hope this helps..............Bill S- Top
