'66 Upper Control Arm Nut ID

Joe,
Can you help me identify the nut which holds the upper control arm. The number from the AIM is 9422300. I misplaced mine and need to determine exactly what I need.

This same type nut was used for 1963 through 1967. It is a standard hex nut of 7/16-20 thread size. I don't recall the finish but it was either black phosphate or zinc plated----I can tell you later. This nut was used in conjunction with a lockwasher as it is NOT a locking type nut. 1968-82 Corvettes used different upper control arm bolts and nuts. The nuts were/are a prevailing torque type locking nut of 7/16-14 thread pitch and zinc plated.

Joe,
The AIM does not show a lock washer. Should I use a standard lock washer, or is it a star or some other type?

Now that you mention it, I think that I erred in the information that I provided in my earlier post. It was earlier C3s that used the standard hex nut with lockwasher. For 1966, and possibly a bit earlier, this arrangement changed to a prevailing torque lock-nut but the thread size was still 7/16-20. So, the GM #9422300 nut was a prevailing torque type lock-nut. It was of the type that has a triangular shaped indention on the head of the nut which deforms the threads creating the locking feature and it was zinc plated.

No, I'm afraid that these nuts are GM-discontinued. However, this type of nut is available in many auto parts stores in the "orange drawers" (Dorman Products). Also, this size can be found as the rocker adjusting nut on many old big block engines.

As a last resort, I think that Long Island carries them.
