drive line woes

im' having problems with my 79 L82. it seems as though something in the drive line is not right. upon acceleration it feels like something is holding the car back, the clutch also seems to "grab" when shifting (this is most prevalent when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear). the entire rear suspension was rebuilt last year, i did the rebuild feeling it would cure these problems. i have bled the brakes two times thinking maybe the brakes were "holding the car back", with no change. any and all suggestions would be appreciated, i'm at a total loss to explain the problem. everything i have checked so far appears to be in order, perhaps i am overlooking something.

I had problems with a power brake booster once that had similar symptom to your feeling that something's holding you back... generally it would occur after the car warmed up, was not noticeable when the car was cold, and eventually got bad enough to point to the booster, which was found to have an internal vacuum leak that caused the brakes to be applied lightly. Had the booster rebuilt. But as I recall, it felt sluggish mostly on the highway, including even when coasting, and I think the brake pedal felt a bit too firm as well.

Did you check the master cylinder adjustment rod. Mine was too loose and therefore put a slight bit of pressure on the brakes and after long drives the wheels would get hot. When i adjusted it the problem went away.

A pushrod that is adjusted too tightly (not enough pedal free play) can result in partial brake application due to slight opening of the vacuum valve in the booster with the pedal at rest. The pushrod/clevis at the pedal should be adjusted so you have 1/16"-1/4" of pedal free play before you feel engagement with the booster.
