    T-10 info needed

I just came across a Borg Warner T-10. It appears to have a 2.60 first gear from spinning the shaft and counting the revolutions. There are no numbers on the case, either cast in or stamped. it has a cast on the side that read 'T-10 1B' and 'WG Div.' under it.

Can anyone tell me what years this trans was used from? Also what is the differance between a T-10 and a Super T-10. Are there any web sites that would have info on this transmission?

    Thanks in advance

There was an article in the "Restorer" withing the last few years that carried information on the T-10 1B case. It is one time that the location of the casting ID is important as well as the numbers themselves. Yhe standard GM wide ratio T-10 configuration used a 2.54 low gear setup, so it is likely this is what you have. Both the side cover and the tailhousing should be dated to help ID it more acurately.

The Borg-Warner T-10 was used in Corvettes from 1957 to 1963. The "Super T-10" was used from 1974 to 1981. Basically, the design of the transmissions is the same. However, there are not very many parts that interchange. The "Super T-10" is, overall, a stronger transmission.

The "Super T-10" underwent several metamorphoses after GM ceased to use them in PRODUCTION. First, the tooling and production rights were sold to Doug Nash Engineering. They continued to produce the transmission in original and, later, modified form. A portion of it, with redesigned main case, was used in the 84-88 Corvette "4+3" transmission.

Upon the "death" of Doug Nash Engineering, the tooling and production rights were acquired by Richmond Gear. Richmond further modified the transmission over the years and continues to produce it. I think that NASCAR uses it, or some form of it, in many race cars.

I think they used Muncies until 1974, or they did a switch in the model year. I have a 74 Muncie that came from a corvette with a S date code. Gm also put Muncies in 63 corvettes, uses a different bell housing because of the three speed bearing used in 63.

Yes, Muncies were used into, and possibly through, the 1974 model year. It's possible that some late 1974s might have received the Super T-10, but I've never verified that.

Also, Muncies were used for later 1963 Corvettes. However, earlier cars received the T-10
