    Need help plumbing a '70 LS5

I'm trying to hook up the TCS on a 1970 454. The two short metal vacuum tubes are shown in Dr. Rebuild's catalog, but Debbie says they are no longer available.

Is anyone will to loan me a pair of tubes (reproduction or original) so I can copy them? Of course I'll gladly cover all postage and figure some way to repay the favor.

Jerry, I had the same problem with my 70 LS-5 a few years ago. I tried to find an original or reproduction with no luck. I referred to Dr. Rebuilds illustration(don't file suit against me), and bent a piece of brake line in a configuration that seemed correct. If you want the survivor look try a used line. It worked great and passed muster on the judging field. In addition I remember some confusion on weather there were 2 clips on that TCS vacuum line or just 1. My car was quite original and had just one clip on it so I went with that.

      Two accepted configurations?

Dave, the documentation on this feature has me confused.

The 1970 AIM (UPC LS5, Sheet A3) clearly shows two steel lines held by one funky clip with twin "hooks". This is essentially the same set-up shown in the Dr. Rebuild catalog.

The Third Edition NCRS 1970-2 Judging Guide (top of page 70) says: "Mark IV engine vacuum advance lines use a steel line from the carburetor to the solenoid in 1970 and 1972. Rubber lines connect the solenoid to the distributor canister. Two attachment clips hold the steel line to the intake manifold."

It sounds to me like our Judging Guide is saying there is only one steel line, but two separate (single hook?) clips on the manifold.

Can you tell me which of these versions is considered correct these days? Or are these documents all describing the same set-up and I'm just misinterpreting the words?

        Re: Two accepted configurations?

Jerry, That is what I meant about the 2 clips. The 70-72 JG had me confused. I went with the Dr Rebuild configuration and used the 1 clip I had and it worked for me. I believe the 2 clip notation is incorrect. Comments from the 70 Guru's would be appreciated.

Hello, I got a sort of drawing to build the famous TCS tube from somebody in the board. If you like, I could send to you a copy, in private mail. Asume you are talking about the U shaped tube between solenoid and carb.

            Thank you

I really appreciate your offer of help. It doesn't look like I'm going to find any actual tubing to use as a pattern. A drawing or photo would be the next best thing.

Jerry I was looking in my Corvette parts illustration book that was given to me years ago and say the layout of what I think you are wanting. It would give you an idea of how it came from the picture of the system. Let me know and I will send you a copy of it.

                    Jim -

It's very thoughtful of you to offer a copy of that diagram. I appreciate your concern. I think I alrady have that drawing though, in a 1971 P&A book.
