In looking at the steering wheel from my 65 I've noticed it's a little dinged up. It's the simulated wood wheel. It has some chips in what looks like a very light clear covering on it. Is there a recommended way to restore the finish? There aren't any dents or cracks in it. Has anyone tried a 1500 or 2000 wet and dry sanding paper to remove the chiping and then clear it again? What does the voice of experience say? Jerry

Re: 65 Steering Wheel Restoration
If your steering wheel has a smooth finish(other than the nicks)then the surface is already well worn. When new your wheel had a grain pattern that you could feel.Look near the spokes for evidence of the grain. If you do what you propose the wheel will look somewhat better, but in this case shiny is not altogether better!................Bill S- Top
