Has anyone successfully polished out small to medium scratches in the aluminum face of a mid year glove box door. The only alternative seems to be replacment with an aftermarket unit, which requires drilling out all the door rivets, which I do not want to do. Thanks.

Re: Mid Year Glove Box Door
I'll try to repsond here!
The aluminum plate in the midyear glovebox door is anodized aluminum. Consequently it scratches relatively easily and any attempts to polish will remove the anodizing. You may be able to produce a cosmetically acceptible result if you mechanically polish the plate then coat with a "matte finish" clear paint (although I have not done this).
The kits to "rebuild" the door involves carefully drilling out the rivets, replacing the plate & emblem, and reassembling with screws that appear similar to the original rivets. I'm sure there are folks out there who can perform this repair virtually so it is virtually undetectable, but it seems quite complicated with high potential for disaster. If you are not absolutely picky about originality, GM still sells some of these glovebox doors; they differ from originals in the edge configuration.
(My original door was worse: someone had painted the plate silver! I found a good used original with minimal scratches.)
Good luck!
