I,m planning on repainting the hardtop on my '57. The car is red with white coves ,hardtop is red . I want to change hardtop to white . Was this an orgional color combination ? I 've seen early, black & white, GM photos of a '56 with a dark color body / white coves / white hardtop . I wasn't sure if it went to production . Any input would be great . Dana

I believe in '56/'57 the hardtop was painted the same color as the body, and not the color of the cove. I can't quickly lay my hands on my information to verify this, but I belive I can (if I look longe enough). If you think about the color combinations offered in those years, Corvettes may or may not have a different color cove depending on the choice of the buyer. If Chevrolet offered the hardtop to match the body color only, there would be less paint hassle required when it came to hardtop colors. That said, it's your Corvette, paint the hardtop as you like. Every piece of reference material I've gathered over the years for my '57 indicates that (factory-installed) hardtops were only available in matching body color - dealers may have re-painted some to match cove colors at the request of customers.Comment
