    66 Alternator Restoration ?

Can anyone recommend a paint or coating to paint the field windings in an alternator?
What finish is the alternator pully/fan on a late (July) 66 AC car. The manual is less than specific.
    Thanks

Look in your local yellow pages under electric motor service shops. Shops that rewind motors carry the special polyester or epoxy based motor varnish, it is a multi-part product, and can be daubed on with an acid brush, and it leaves the windings with a clear coat that is amber colored. It also protects the windings from weather and insulation breakdown....I did my 67 alternator and it came out perfect.....Craig

In addition to what Craig said, you might want to look into "Glyptal". It is sold by several places including Eastwood but they advertise it as an engine block coating to improve oil drainback on the inside of the block. This is not its original application but it is the preferred coating for that purpose. The original intended application is electric motor windings. It is reddish in color and comes in spray cans or brush on quarts at about $25 bucks either way. I like the brush on can myself. Check it out.
