With my AIM and Adams book and others at the restorers, I am relying on the expertise of you good people. I need to know if the window frames on my 56 are stainless or chrome. Thanks. Also thanks to John Kennedy for the valuable advice you gave me a while ago on the phone. You were very helpful.

Steve, I believe all the window and windshield bright metal is stainless, except the side posts which are of course diecast. However, the stainless trim is "flash chromed" so it will match the diecast parts in color and appearance. Buffing will remove the chrome and result in a slight color variation. -

Steve, Ed is exactly right, and the other downside is that left unpolished for a period of time it will continue to oxidize slightly and turn color even more. Not a big issue for the most part for us guys who are constantly polishing and cleaning our cars. The frame is so thin that it does not really stand out that much, unlike something like wheelcovers which are very large and very noticable to the person who knows what he is looking for (judges). If you really want to return the flash chroming to the frames or any stainless trim, I have had very good success with Rick Applegate at Areba services. JohnComment
