I am in a situation similar to Larry Geiger with the '67, except that I have come across a '54. It is in pretty bad shape but appears to be fairly complete. The car came to me out of Mississippi, where it must have spent a few years outside. From the paperwork, it looks like it was originally a Florida car. I will consider all of the advise you gave Larry and plan to join the club soon. Where/how do I research the car's original configuration (i.e. options) and paint and interior codes? I realize that there were few options and that 80% were Polo White w/ Sportsman Red, but thought I should confirm. The car may be too far gone for a show quality restoration on my budget. I can be happy with a nice driver. I suspect that "original" parts may have a lot to do with that decision. Where/how do I research serial nos. for engine, transmission, carbs, etc. Thanks for your help.

Re: '54 - Researching Nos. and Codes
There is very little on cars of this era that points to original configuration (no intelligence in VIN sequence, Etc.). Most is a labor of love in terms of getting 'intimate' with how the cars were built to 'infer' the original configuration....
Consider buying the '53-55 JG (Judging Guide) from the NCRS Merchandise Center in Cincinnatti ('store' -- this site) along with Noland Adam's Complete Corvette Restoration, Vol 1 and sitting down for a nice long read. Then, kick around the concept of doing NOTHING to the car, but taking and having it judged at an NCRS Chapter/Regional meet....
Yes, you can expect the judges to work their pencils down doing write-ups, but I guarantee you you'll learn about your car beyond your wildest dreams for the cheapest $-figure anywhere in all of Corvettedom this way!- Top

Re: '54 - Researching Nos. and Codes
There are no options for 54...they're all the same. All had radio's, heater's, 6 cylinder's and powerglides. The only possible difference could be color, Polo White, Sportsman Red, Pennant Blue, and even Black, that's it. There are no trim tags, etc. You'll have to be an archeologist....and check for the original color. Buy Noland's book. Certain colors were available ONLY within or after certain time frames. Hope this helps. Chuck1963 Corvette Conv. 327/360 NCRS Top Flight
