85 MPH Speedometers

I am currently on a remote assignment and unable to get to my Corvette data. A discussion has started here as to what years Corvette had the 85 MPH speedometer. Help in settling this question would be appreciated.

I am pretty sure that the 85 MPH speedo was first introduced in the '79 model year. My first Corvette was a very early production '79, before the 85 MPH was used. A buddy of mine had a '79 that was prodcued very late in the production cycle and his did have the "wimpy" speedo!!

I can't help you with how long they stayed in production. Hopefully someone here has that info! Good Luck!!

Bill on your next remote assignment take along the Corvette Black Book, it states under the 79's that some late 79's that the required 85 mile speedometer for the 80 models was used.
