    66 rotors

What does it mean in parts catolog when they say rotors are matched to spindles for minimum run out? I'mm going to replace my rotors. What am I suppose to have done to them if anything?

    Re: 66 rotors

Mike - it means that they rotate the rotor on the spindle in each of the five positions to obtain the minimum lateral runout, so the out of true aspects of the rotor and those of the spindle cancel each other out for the most part. What this does do, however, is in all probability prevent the alignment of the holes in the rotor and those in the spindle for the parking brake adjuster. GM assembled the rotor and spindle then trued the assembly for zero runout. This is the way I personally prefer to assemble and true my units as well. This does require you find a machine shop willing to turn the assembly on centers in a lathe to produce the desired results. In my case, I have a metal lathe at home. While it is not necessary to rivet the rear rotors to the spindles, my preference is to do this again as the General did....Craig

Rotor goes on the hub. Then the hub with bearings goes on the spindle. Just a mix up in terms.

How to rivet the rear rotors

        Craig,

Do you re-rivet the rear rotors yourself? If so, how do you do this?

        Thanks,

        Gary

Re: How to rivet the rear rotors

There is a Corvette shop that will rivet the rotors on the spindle. I used their services for my 70. www.bairs.com is one way of contacting them. If you really want your rear bearings and assembly done right for care free highway driving they can do it all. My only regret is that I did not know of their services back in 1973 to correct what a Chevrolet dealership incorrectly repaired on my car.

Gary - I got the tool from Long Island Corvette for my pneumatic hammer. I haven't actually done it yet though, as I still have my rear trailing arms apart. I do have the rivets I bought from Bairs at Carlisle. I don't konw their process, but I was going to assemble with temporary bolts/nuts, then rivet on hole at a time, removing the bolts as I go. I also figured I would need to make a solid support to back up the rivet head to prevent it from moving around during the process, to create a tight rivet set.....Craig
