Can someone vouch for repro dash pads?

I want to replace a badly cracked black passenger dash pad on a '66 coupe. I've never tried the reproduction pads available; I've always been lucky enough to use originals.

Can anyone recommend a source of good dash pads that they have installed? I'm not much concerned with price - just fit and appearance. My experience with reproduction parts is very mixed. Sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't. I'll hunt down an original pad at a swap meet if I have to, but I'd rather pick up the phone and order a new one.

What about using Just Dashes to recover your old one? I have no experience with them, but their reputation is pretty good. Supposedly they can do the vinyl in an exact match (in grain and color) as your original.

Have seen several repro dash pads from various sources that got full concours credit with correct installation proceedure (Al Knoch is just one source). Have also seen factory originals that took deductions for 'bagginess' at dash ends (near center console) -- even the factory did slipshod work at times!

Be sure to check the configuration of what you've got (paint vs. no paint in door jam area where riveted) and make sure to duplicate if you replace. Nothing wrong with a good repro, things DO wear out....

Bigger area of concern on dash repro stuff is in Shark cars where texture, stitching, and color of stitch vs. vinyl is an issue. I've yet to see anyone get the formula correct/authentic....

I appreciate your response, Alex. I've seen magazine articles about Just Dashes, but I don't know anyone who has used them.

I don't want to be the first (or the last) person to try something. Maybe there is someone out there who can say they are happy with a reproduction dash based on a past installation.
