    BADGES

    HELLO,

I HAVE PURCHASED SOME L-48 EMBLEMS FOR MY 77 VETTE. COULD ANYONE TELL ME THEIR EXACT PLACEMENT ON THE HOOD?

    THANKS,

    CHRIS

    Re: BADGES

Sorry to tell you, but GM never installed L-48 badges on Corvettes, only on some L-82s. What you have are aftermarket customizing items.

      Chris and Mike------

I agree with Mike; no L-48 emblems were ever originally used on the hood of 1977 Corvettes; L-82s did have such emblems, though . However, if you wish to mount the emblems in the exact same position as the L-82 emblems (which, presumably, would be the "correct" position if L-48s had had emblems), then consult your 1977 AIM. The exact dimensions for the location of the holes to be drilled for the emblems are usually provided there. If your emblems are attached only by pressure-sensitive adhesive, then you'll need to "interpolate" the location from the dimensions provided for the holes. You should be able to come VERY close, though, without difficulty.

        Re: The 1965 AIM

        Joe,

This is not a response about the L48 badges, rather a question about the AIM in general. In your response you mention that the AIM should have dimensions. I have been somewhat unhappy with the lack of detail in the book. For example the detail on the carpet flap cutouts for the seat tracks. Another area is in the seat upholstery section, page j3, there is mention of an L-73863 seat contour instruction which I do not not have. In redoing the seats, I don't really know where to start attaching the clips, common sense says to start in the middle of the panel and work out towards the sides, but more instruction would be helpful. Those are the first two examples that come to mind. Is there something mising, or have I got all that is available. Thanks in advance for any information you can share.

          George-----

Your AIM should have sheets J1 through J-4 covering the seat assembly. That's all there is. There are a lot of things that the AIM doesn't cover, but we're still quite fortunate to have them available.

In general, the completeness of the AIMs improved as the years went on. But, there is still a lot of information of interest to restorers that's not there even in later model year editions.

George, The number L-73863 is a Chevrolet Engineering LAYOUT (drawing)(which you nobody would have) that the Plant probably utilized for reference in seat the assembly or instaliation.

                  Joe, Art,

Thanks for the confirmation. I keep reading about the information in the AIM, and though I might have missed some part of it. You are absolutely correct we are lucky to have them, for they do tell us allot. The detail in the judging manual is also quite helpful.

                  Thanks again,

                  George
