I am in the process of installing a new fuel pump (on a '64 300hp). In moving the fittings over from the old pump to the new pump, it was very difficult to screw them in - could only get them in a turn or two by hand. So, I bought some new fittings thinking the sizing might have been off, but I encountered the same issue. Is this typical? I am prepared to put some permatex on the threads and just whack them in with a wrench, but thought I'd ask the question first. Am I missing something? the pump bowl appears new. Thanks.

Re: Fuel Pump Fittings
Mark you are scary. All it would take is a spray of gas from your pounded in gas line connections on a hot exhaust and your 64 could become a charred frame.
I don't know where you bought your fuel pump, but I would guess that it is not one from GM. You could take your new fittings and if they work in your old fuel pump take the new fittings with you when you take the new fuel pump back and show them why it will not work. I think that GM still stocks your fuel pump. If you archive Joe Lucia you might even find the part number available today.
Car parts today are something. Bought a new fuel filter for a Honda car from Auto Zone and it was made in Israel. Haven't installed it yet and it does have hard line screw type connections.- Top
