The JG identifies 4 different ratios that were used on my 60, but states that only 3 tags were used. the 4.56, 4.11, and 3.70 tags are shown, but not the 3.55 ratio which was the factory installed rear in my powerglide car. Should I install the round tag, which is the 3.55 ID tag or leave it bare? This must be a mistake in the JG as why else would it say that only three tags were used on corvettes when 5 different ratios were used from 58-60? Comments? John

Re: 60 axle housing tag
You might be working with an older version of the JG.... Current book is Summer 2001, 4th Edition. It says:
"Corvette axle identification tags were manufactured from cold rolled steel with a bright finish or blue finish and had a diameter of about 1.5" with a .39" mounting hole. Although approximately ten tags were available, it is believed only three were specified for use on Corvettes. They were attached behind one of the differential carrier nuts usually at two o'clock or possibly at ten o'clock when viewed from the front."
This is followed by table listing the year, broadcast code, ratio, type of rear end, and host car configuration. Below the table are sketches of how arious axle ratio ID tags were shaped. No 3.55:1 broadcast code is given for a posi rear end in the table, but code 'AE' lists a 3.55:1 ratio for non-posi used with powerglide in the '59-60 era.
Unless someone else knows why the JG reads as it does (....believed only three were specified....), you'll have to contact the Team Leader, Tim Mickey, to get a better reading on this.- Top

Re: 60 axle housing tag
I think any of the tags can be used provided the gear ratio was available with the other power train components. Perhaps the Judging guide nees a revision.
I was the first in the hobby to manufacture these tags back in 1989 and did some research with John Amgwert regarding them.
I'm currently working on the transmission tags.
