    c1 brake/fuel lines

I'm putting the finishing touches on my 61 frame and have a few paint questions. My original (or at least what I thought were original) brake, fuel lines, posi vent line and portions of my emergency brake cable have both the red oxide primer and chassis black paint. I want to try to restore as close to factory as possible. Should these lines by painted (where they assembled to the chassis before the chassis was painted?) or left bare metal. If left bare, has anyone coated them with NYLAC or a similar protective agent and still be judged "correct"? Thanks, Ron 61 project

    Just a thought,

I know that Nyalic is VERY shiny when applied, and I can always tell when it is there. It also seems to be quite "thick" and always want to run when I use it. No matter how much I have tried, it always seems to make the parts look "plastic coated." If you want some protection, stainless lines offer some, but experienced judges can often tell them from the regular steel lines.

Sorry, but I don't know enough about the dinosaur-era Vettes to tell you if they are painted.

Hello Ron; I do not believe that any of the brake/fuel lines or the emergency brake cable should have any paint on them. These were all assembled to the chassis after it was painted. What you probably have is some overspray from previous repairs/detailing attempts. I suppose it is possible that the rear areas of the brake cables might have some overspray from the wheel well blackout procedure, but in my opinion, I would leave them natural unpainted.
