I want to improve the cosmetics of my '67 fan shroud because (1) it has some very minor but noticable hairline cracks and (2) there is some overspray from an aftermarket paint job. As it now exists, it is of course unpainted natural fiberglass, semi-black in color. What are my options? (1) If I paint it, will this cost me points, or result in scrating and chipping? (2) If I don't paint it, how can I safely remove the existing paint overspray without damaging the fiberglass? I'm leaning towards painting it unless that's a really stupid idea, since I can make it match the rest of the engine compartment. Thanks in advance for your help. Jim Hansen

Re: 67 Fan Shroud Cosmetics
Jim,
After removing the shroud, I would clean it up with lacquer thinner. That should get most of it off. If need be there are spray cans of semi-flat black lacquer available that will let the fiberglass "show" through for an unpainted look. Just don't spary it on so thick it runs, just dust a couple three coats on very lightly. my $0.02
