1963 Corvette tranny, what do I have?

    Regards Corvetter's,
Can someone help me regarding the information on a Borg-Warner I'm looking to purchase for my '63. Facts as follows: Input shaft has 1 ring around splines. Aluminum Main case has following info:WM 1822, 96T99TS,11-21-62. Tail shaft:3813490,T-10-7D,11-13-62. Side cover,11-21-62. Is this a close ratio or can one tell. Let me know what you know!
    Regards,

    Michael------

On a 1963 Borg-Warner transmission, which, by virtue of all the casting numbers on the external parts of the transmission is exactly what you have, I THINK that the 1 circumferential groove on the input shaft denotes wide ratio. No grooves denotes close ratio. You can easily confirm this. Simply remove the side cover and count the number of teeth on the input shaft gear (the gear which is furthest to the left as you look into the trans). If there are 25 teeth, it's a wide ratio; if there are 27 teeth, then it's a close ratio. I think they'll be 25.

      CR versus WR

One can easily detemine CR or WR by placing the box in first gear. Mark the shafts so you can count turns and turn the output shaft one full revolution. A WR input shaft will turn about two-and-a-half turns (2.54 first gear) and about two-and-a-quarter turns if a CR (2.20 first gear).

Also, were all the '63 T-10s aluminum case, or maybe just the CRs????

All 63 T-10s were aluminum case.

          Re: CR versus WR

All 63 T-10's used in PRODUCTION were aluminum case; B-W was still building cast iron main case T-10's for service.
