    56 Steel script valve covers.

Did the steel valve covers that came stock on the 56's with 210 hp have the Chevrolet script painted? I was told the lettering was painted a light silvery grey and I see they sell stencils to do it with. Just wondering as they get painted in a few days! Thanks, Steve

Steve, Nolan Adams describes the color as "silver-white" for the outline of the word Chevrolet on the 1956 210hp motor.

According to the latest edition of the 56-57 Judging Guide on pg.42, standard engines were painted engine color with the script highlighted in silver paint.

The guy's with 55 to 57 Chevies say that the script was not painted on the passenger cars. As near as I can tell G.M. painted some engines for display and detailed some for show with the painted script which nowdays people think is correct. I have had lots of 265 and early 283 valve cover and have never saw one that had the script painted, even the ones that were embossed with Pontiac for Canadian cars were plain. Maybe the Corvette low H.P. engine was painted but I doubt it.

Steve, I just glassbeaded a set of covers that have been laying in storage since 1967 and they in fact did have the script painted, and the color of the script was kind of a silver-white. John

            PAINTED! (White-silver) P-cars were solid.

              Steve:
I bought the stencils and rolled on the paint with a hard rubber roller. Worked good for me. Spray should work also. Treat and store the stencils carefully and they can be used again.
