    C2 Power Antenna mast cable

My '65 FI car has the original power antenna, but, alas, like most it is rusted up & frozen. I disassembled it & find all parts in working order (including motor) with one exception....the cable inside the mast is broken in several places. Does anybody know where to come by replacement cable that can be spliced onto the remaining original length? Are there more modern vintage GM PA's that use this same style of mast cable? Has anyone found some acceptable substitute for this cable? Any clever ideas or alternatives are welcome!

My recollection is that there was an excellent article in the Restorer Magazine within the last few years covering this repair. You might want to look it up. Also, I can tell you that the cable, itself, is not available as a seperate repair part from GM.

      Thanks, Joe...
Is the entire mast & cable assembly available as a GM replacement? Any idea if other GM cars used this same antenna cable system?

        Jon:

Can I assume that the cable is beyond repair if it is broken in several places? If so, contact OEM Glass as they can rebuild the unit for you, but it is quite expensive. I am not sure of their contact info, but I believe they are in Michigan - maybe someone else can help out here. They can probably be found in Hemmings or the Driveline.

          Jon-----

The complete assembly is no longer available through the GM parts system. However, it MAY be available through the Delco parts system. If it's not available through Delco, then I'm sure it's available in reproduction. Whatever, those available are configured slightly different than the originals, though.

Many other GM cars used a power antenna system which was similar in functional principle to that used for Corvettes. However, I don't think that any of those units will interchange with the Corvette unit. Some parts likely will, though.

I didn't realize that OEM Glass was into this sort of restoration work. However, if so, they are located in, of all places, Bloomington, IL.
