    Re: 215 70 15 -- Will they fit my '67?

    I can't tell you for sure if they'll fit but I can offer you these dimensions for the tires:

    7.75-15 (the original tire size which we know will fit)

    diameter= 27.61" section width= 7.70" tread width= 5.27"

    215-70-15

    diameter= 26.89" section width= 8.70" tread width= 6.80"

    These tires are different enough in section and tread width that there might be an interference problem, especially considering the limited wheel well clearance of mid-year Corvettes. However, the best information would come from someone who has installed or tried to install this size tire on a mid-year. There must be someone out there.

    Yes, they should fit. The '67 judging manual lists either 205/75/R15 or 215/70/R15 as acceptable service replacement sizes.

    I have been told many times to not put anything larger than 215/70/15 on a mid-year. A judge at our chapter meet described a bad day he had when he cracked a fender on his mid-year driver with a tire that seemed to fit fine until he hit a bump with the front wheels cranked in a tight turn.

    I've also corresponded with someone who had 235/60/15 and later 245/50/15 on a '66 roadster. He, however, was willing to live with some "polishing" on the frame, which I am not.

    '67 coupe with 205/75/15 Pirelli P77's (no longer made but work pretty well for such skinny tires)

      Used 215 70x15s on my 66 convertible and the only problem I had was the spare tire carrier. The 215 wouldn't fit in the tub. Too large a diameter. Changed tire size to 205 70x15 and changed tire tub bolts to the ones for the Knock off wheel option and everything fits great!

        Well I finally looked on my car ('64 L84 coupe), and have mounted a set of 215/60's allaround on some "Daisy Mags". These are similar to the Torque Thrust D's form the 60's. No problems, and I do take around the autocross course now and then. Good Luck!
